With Week 5 of Division One finished, here's a recap of Valorant matches, standings, highlights, and player statistics so far.
Week 5 of Division One’s League of Legends season featured a ton of games that went to game 3. Closer skilled teams finally met each other on the battlefield. These are the exciting recaps and highlights of those games as well as how it shook up the leaderboard.
Ohio State VS Stony Brook
This matchup marked the second time in Division One League of Legends that a third game was played. Ohio State managed to defeat their bot and mid lane players early on, but Stony Brook wasn’t about to throw in the towel at that. Stony Brook pulled off an amazing solo-kill bait to lure Ohio State away from the first drake to capture it themselves from bot lane. That wasn’t the only drake they captured. Game 1 ended with Stony Brook having 4 drakes, an Ace, and a Baron under their wing. Game 2, however, was in Ohio State’s hand. It started off calm, only for them to scale better than Stony Brook. Not 1 but 3 Aces and Baron led to Ohio State’s comeback. With both teams proving formidable opponents, game 3 was a sight to see. Stony Brook saved void grubs from Ohio State, but Ohio State stole the second drake. However, the game went in Stony Brook’s favor as they had lane dominance in top lane. They closed out the game with a Baron and an Ace.
Ohio State is 2-3 and Stony Brook is 4-1 in Division One League of Legends.

Winthrop VS St. Clair
Another game 3 happened when Winthrop and St. Clair faced each other later that Sunday. If you tuned in only during game 1, there might have been an expectation that St. Clair won the match. They had a lot of impressive plays like SCC Matty stealing 1st drake, winning a team fight while only down 1 player, and ending the game with a second Baron and a quad kill. It’s important to remember that Winthrop is a top 2 competitor in Division One. Game 2 had St. Clair in the lead while Winthrop collected no objectives. Then it happened. WU Mobility got a pentakill to save the game. It led to Winthrop getting an Ace for Atakan, a Baron capture after being down 3 player's, another Ace in bot lane, a 2nd Baron, and, overall, a game win. They carry this momentum into game 3 as Winthrop masterfully split-pushes lanes. Drakes aren’t their focus but Rift Herald, Atakan, and Baron captures did put pressure on St. Clair. The long match closed with a Winthrop Ace.
Winthrop is 4-1 and St. Clair is 3-2 in Division One League of Legends.

Boise State VS Maryville
This matchup was a quick one as 4-0 Maryville faced off against 0-4 Boise State. Game 1 had Maryville pulling off stunts they normally wouldn’t do. BSU Paintlicker got killed twice at the start due to them diving under enemy towers with only a few levels gained. Still, both teams pulled off impressive, low-health dodges and traded objectives (Maryville getting void grubs, while Boise State got first drake). The game doesn’t last much longer as Maryville storms base with Rift Herald and closes it out with an Ace at 16:31. Game 2 featured the fastest League of Legends game win in Division One so far. Maryville’s early game lead was much bigger as they went on the offensive. Boise State’s bot lane was being camped out in the jungle between their towers. Within 12 minutes, Maryville is storming into their base. There’s no need for void grubs or drakes when the kill score is 1-31. The match ends at 13:39 with a Maryville win.
Maryville is 5-0 and Boise State is 0-5 in Division One League of Legends.

West Virginia VS Utah
An important match for Utah happened on Monday against West Virginia. Utah played on the scale lead that their top laner, A Narwh4l, had to split push towers. A Narwh4l was a complete menace to West Virginia, getting 4 solo kills before being taken down. He cleared bot lane while his team captured first Baron. Still, Utah lost game 1. West Virginia had all the void grubs and 4 drakes (Utah had only 1) to be able to rush Utah’s base once they were defeated. Game 2 had West Virginia coming out on top in team fights. WVU Aolios got a triple kill at the void grub fight that downed 4 Utah players. This scale advantage helped them win a 3v3 and a late first drake at 13:30. However, Utah managed to lock in to gain the advantage. They took Rift Herald and first Baron with 3 kills at each one. The game ended in Utah’s favor after shredding the second Baron’s health bar and heading to West Virginia’s base. Game 3 started similar in West Virginia’s favor. Utah steals the third drake from them and get a quad kill in the resulting team fight. Power and gold advantage swing into Utah’s favor as they eventually get confident enough to push into base. West Virginia stops the first nexus push with a quad kill, but a Baron combined with an Ace will give the game and match to Utah. This is Utah’s first win in Division One.
West Virginia and Utah are 1-4 in Division One League of Legends.
