It’s time to wrap up week 4 of Division One’s League of Legends season! Showcased are the 4 matches played, some highlights, and an update on individual and team rankings.

Ohio State VS St. Clair

Last Sunday (10/5), two 2-1 teams fought a strong game 2 to stay in the upper bracket of the season. Game 1 was the same as most of the games seen so far in Division One--one-sided, 20-25 minute matchups. St. Clair, despite getting Ace’d by Ohio State, flipped both the kill score and gold advantage with one fight, ending the game with a win. Game 2, however, was where it got exciting. St. Clair got first blood, but Ohio State ended up leading in kills. 6 drakes were taken over the course of the game, 4 for Ohio State and 2 for St. Clair. Things went out of Ohio State’s favor when St. Clair managed to get 2 Barons. The scaling tilted. The winner is St. Clair.

Ohio State is 2-2 and St. Clair is 3-1 in Division One League of Legends.

Stony Brook VS Utah

Game 1 proved that power scaling isn’t the only way to win a League of Legends match. Utah focused on building a scale advantage to get kills, but Stony Brook split-pushed towers when lanes were open. A battle in top lane would result in Stony Brook getting a bot lane tower. Utah was strong enough to get a base inhibitor first, but things flipped before they could capitalize on it. 2 Barons and a drake go in Stony Brook’s favor as they eventually win game 1. Game 2 was played much more defensively by both sides, first blood not happening until around 7 minutes in for a drake capture. This time, Stony Brook scaled better with a tanky Galio (SBU Vinn) to win the match.

Stony Brook is 3-1 and Utah is 0-4 in Division One League of Legends.

West Virginia VS Maryville

It’s offense VS offense as West Virginia faces off against Maryville. Less than 3 minutes into game 1, both teams had grabbed 2 kills. This aggression eventually favors Maryville as they scale faster in lane dominance, kills, and objectives. They take game 1. Game 2 ends up worse for West Virginia. Maryville’s Crimson gets a quad kill while pushing top lane towers. The game ends with Shelly being activated onto nexus towers and a 5-31 kill score in favor of Maryville.

West Virginia is 1-3 and Maryville is 4-0 in Division One League of Legends.

Winthrop VS Boise State

What happens when you put a top 2 competitor against a 0-3 team? You get an uneven matchup. In game 1, Winthrop not only did a wonderful split-push, but they also managed to get both void grubs and a drake to their advantage. They seemed to cause Boise State’s base to collapse inward as they ended the game. Game 2 was a bit better for Boise State. They managed to lessen the gold difference and traded the one drake they got last game for a void grub advantage. But the game, and overall match, went to Winthrop.

Winthrop is 3-1 and Boise State is 0-4 in Division One League of Legends.
