A look at how Division ONE has changed between the Fall and Spring Splits.

Division ONE esports was a startup with its inaugural season beginning September 2025. Eight universities went head-to-head in League of Legends and VALORANT tournaments during Fall and Spring splits. It was an impressive live showing on Twitch for a new organization and VODs were uploaded on YouTube with an additional conversational show called “Tilt-Proof.” As all new events, there were some hiccups in their Fall Split that were improved on or changed when the Spring Split came around.

The Fall and Spring Splits of Division ONE featured the same group of colleges, which is a great way for viewers to attach themselves to specific colleges and players for the long term. However, the balance of colleges chosen could’ve been better to make for a more interesting viewing experience. Maryville, one of the best collegiate esports teams in the nation, was a very strong contender. Many people that know of them would expect them to steam-roll others. And they did. Maryville was undefeated in both games in both splits. When you have a college this exceptionally strong, it can create boredom in watching matches or worse, make viewers go somewhere else cause they know who’s going to win. It would help to have tiers to create more balanced competition between colleges that are closer in skill level. Hopefully, this balancing can show up in Division ONE’s future as it is exciting to see Maryville play when they’re challenged.

The Production team of Division ONE was a highlight throughout the splits with a bit more bumps in the Fall that were smoothed out during the Spring. A lot of matches weren’t able to be streamed in the Fall Split either due to overlapping game times or technical issues. Boise State had five games--League of Legends and VALORANT combined--that were played off-stream. Spring Split fixed this. Nearly all of the matches in the Spring were able to be streamed live on Twitch for viewers to see with a few exceptions outside their control. Player cams were implemented for VALORANT along with player portraits for League of Legends to amplify collegiate teams. Teams were put in the forefront to be celebrated. Division ONE’s production team also implemented updated stream graphics and more interviews. It’ll be exciting to see what production improvements come in the future.

The Division ONE website got a visual overhaul when the Spring Split started. There’s now a Home Screen that displays Twitch links, recent news, and what event is going on currently. Finding specific players and colleges to learn about has been improved visually with minor problems with opening match results during the Split. In the Fall Split, Pick-Ems, Division ONE’s prediction game, were active from the start of the split. It took awhile for the Spring Split Pick-Ems to show up for anyone that wanted a shot at the prizes. Hopefully, these website improvements continue on when the next season starts this fall.

One thing on the website that was an immediate improvement was the News. In the Fall, there was only one journalist, Caroline, who made weekly recaps of both the League of Legends and Valorant matches. This Spring brought on two new journalists, Areku and Avery, and more variety in articles, focusing on the colleges and players in Division ONE. Articles now celebrated players that go pro, highlighted colleges and their esports programs, and interviewed players and coaches about current or upcoming matches. Divisione ONE News went from a distant perspective to a much more personal one. This is a great start to more news content and outreach.

The social media presence of Division ONE was much more active in the Spring and reels became more than just posting Twitch clips. They found their marketing style with its black, white, and gold signature colors and eye-catching clips that combined music, plays, and editing with modern marketing. Images highlighted players and updated viewers on the current standings. The social media team helped improve the reach of Division ONE in terms of promotion. Posts were being made on multiple social media platforms that linked with website articles and what was currently going on in esports. This is definitely a far cry from the Fall Split and something they should keep going forward with.

A short Division ONE video announcing the colleges that made it to the Spring Split VALORANT Playoffs

Division ONE esports has ended its first year of its League of Legends and Valorant competitions with an impressive performance. Mistakes in the Fall Split were recognized and sought out a way to improve on it. Their presence in the esports sphere was able to increase with the extra efforts done by everyone in Division ONE to solidify its identity. It’ll be interesting to see how Division ONE grows when it comes back this fall for a new round of League of Legends and Valorant tournaments.
